Why is everyone convinced that the Badgers are a truly good team and even deserving of that top 5, or 6, ranking? When your best win comes against an average Penn State team and you lose to the only good team on your schedule why should you get any respect? The Badgers did not make an effort to go out and play even a merely average Division 1A program in their non conference. The Badgers non conference games read as a who’s who where you go when you can’t make it anywhere else. Bowling Green, Western Illinois, San Diego State and Buffalo. Those four schools combined for 14 wins, if you take out the Leathernecks of Western Illinois on account of their 1AA status the total drops to 9. It is not just the non conference schedule that kills any crying for respect radiating out from Madison. It is the pathetic state of Big 10 Football this past year that kills it in my opinion. The Big 10 as a whole was bad this season. A good conference is a balanced conference is a balanced conference. There was none what so ever in the Big 10 this year. Top heavy does not begin to describe the league this season. Ohio State and Michigan are probably the two best teams in the nation this year, at the very least top 5 when the bowls shake out. After that the league as a whole is one giant question mark. below the top two teams there is not anything to stake claim to. Wisconsin has run their record to 11-1 by playing a ton of average teams. For those who are interested the NCAA ranks the Badger schedule at 75th in the nation, tied with La Tech from the mighty WAC. The 11-1 record is more a product of the schedule than an actual indication of how good this team really is. Wisconsin is an unknown quantity the one good team they played they lost to.
